LED interactive installation for kids

LED systems become popular in a design of shop windows and artistic installations. LED tubes-systems may be stylized to old fashion neon lights and keep rendering on the artistic object in self. The choosing another rendering method (like architecture projections and mapping on the moving objects) from the boring screen provides benefits and WoW effect.

Conception: The main idea is that a human may see his digital shadow when he is walking near the installation. We mounted LED tubes vertically with a distance between them. The colored gradient moves continuously in a sleeping mode. And when someone is walking nearby his blue shadow is rendering on tubes. LED tubes smooth picture’s corners gently and immerse user to the unreal world but in a real shopping situation.
We decided to use vertical LED tubes as a system for rendering visual content.
This installation was done with C++ programming language and Openframeworks library, Microsoft Kinect and LED strips with a controller. You can see it on the 5th floor of the DLT shop in Saint-Petersburg, Russia in spring 2017.
